Serving & Compassion

THE SALVATION ARMY

Christmas Stockings and Bell Ringers

Our church members fill Christmas Stockings for the Salvation Army. Last year we filled 500 stockings. This year week hope to have 600.

Sala and his Bell Ringing staff wishes to thank all who rang the bell, donated to or helped in any way to make this year so successful. Our Church goal was $14,000 and according to our count we ended up with $16,946 as a total including the mission dollars within the church. That amount plus the Stockings program makes our total efforts directly to The Tampa  Salvation Army command about $24, 000.  Not bad for a small community like Sun City Center.

There will be an Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, January 20 at 4:30 with Major and Mrs. Danny Heard to recognize all of the effort The United Methodist Church of SCC contributed during the 2009 holiday season.

 GLEANING MINISTRY

In the fall and spring, teams of volunteers glean the tomato fields and collect thousands of pounds of tomatoes for the food banks in South Hillsborough County.

(Sometimes we even get to take a few home!) See you there!!

 DISASTER RECOVERY TEAM

As part of our Outreach Ministry, we have trained disaster recovery teams to assist in any way we can.

COMMUNITY ARISE BASIC DISASTER MINISTRY TRAINING

This training provides an introduction to the unique and important role the faith community plays in disaster mitigation, preparation and response.  The training provides practical ideas on how to effectively respond to disaster in our community in cooperation with other churches, emergency management officials.  Members in our church who are trained understand the importance of  communication and collaboration in meeting the needs of disaster survivors and the importance of being the church in the midst of crisis. There is no cost for this training; however, registration is required for planning purposes.

5th SUNDAY - CHILDDREN'S HOME OFFERING

When you provide financially for the Children's Home, the interests and well-being of deserving children, youth and families are addressed in vital Christian ministry. Through this Home, the influences of God's tender mercies and noble human compassion powerfully combine and intervene to lasting benefit, preserving and transforming life.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church.  UMCOR is working in more than 80 countries worldwide, including the United States.  Our mission, grounded in the teachings of Jesus, is to alleviate human suffering—whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster, with open hearts and minds to all people.  Our church participates in the coffee/tea project. Fair trade eliminates the middlemen and farmers receive a larger proportion of the prices. This fair trade system allows farmers to earn a stable and fair price for their crops and delivers a fair price to consumers.
