    “Why Christmas”

By this time, we are all well into our Christmas plans. Most people have put out their Christmas decorations, at least started their Christmas shopping and even planned Christmas dinner. In many ways, Christmas has become predictable in our homes and even at church. This morning, we ponder the question, "Why Christmas?" What was the real reason for Christmas? I believe the answers to these questions can be found in Colossians 1.

    “A Celebration of Carols”

Today is one of those Sunday's that we truly look forward to all year long. I can't begin to express my appreciation to the Chancel Choir, our Bell Choirs, Valerie Southwell, our Ahh-Men and Grace Notes, and  the members of the Praise Team and the UTC Praise Band.  I want to particularly thank and recognize Jeff Jordan. Under his leadership and direction the entire music program of UMCSCC comes together. This morning, we will be blessed at the two traditional services with the Christmas Cantata. To everyone who is part of today's cantata, we all thank you for bringing us this musical Christmas message. Next week, under Jeff's leadership, the Praise Team will present a special Contemporary Cantata called A Sacred Sleigh Ride.  Let us continue to follow the Star, as it leads us to Bethlehem and to the Christ Child.

    “Face Time”

Today is the first Sunday in Advent and the beginning of a New Year in our Christian Calendar. This morning's Scripture is a traditional (Lectionary) reading for today. The theme for the 1st Sunday in Advent is HOPE! As we begin our Advent journey to Bethlehem, we will remember and reflect upon the only true HOPE of the world, Jesus the Christ, who has come to Restore US! We will remember how John, in his Gospel, reminds us that "God has moved into the neighborhood" (John 1:11). We will gather today around his table prepared for us to again celebrate, Emmanuel, God With Us!

    “Don’t Miss the Moment”

This past week we celebrated Thanksgiving. Next Sunday we begin our Advent journey along with a brand new year in the Christian Calendar. For this final Sunday I would like to look at a very special moment in time, when Jesus entered the house of Mary and Martha. Martha was distracted with "much serving" while Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. This story reminds me of some special God given moments in my life. Occasionally, I am fortunate enough to recognize those moments as they are happening, but often, I miss the moment and don't realize it until later. No doubt, Jesus will come to us many times and in many different ways in the coming weeks of Christmas and the coming New Year. Will we recognize those moments?

    “Any Talents”
On this Sunday before Thanksgiving we are all reminded of the many ways that God has blessed our lives. As we count our many blessings and give thanks to God, we remember the vital role that The United Methodist Church of Sun City Center plays in our life. In the membership vows we are asked to support the church with "our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness." Because we share our "Talents" we are able to do ministry and share the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our community and even throughout the world. In this morning's message we will be challenged by Jesus to take the risk and share our talents.

    “Lest We Never Forget”
    Series: Veterans Day

Although yesterday was Veteran' Day today in Worship Services, we will be honoring our Veteran's. I was raised, as most of us were, with great respect and honor for all who have so bravely served our country. Let us never forget those who serve now and who have served in the past to insure the survival and success of freedom, liberty and democracy. May God continue to keep his hand upon us, guide us and protect us. May we as a people do what the Lord requires of us (Deut 10:12).

    “Unbound and Set Free”

Today we celebrate All Saints Sunday. During each service, we will be remembering and reading the names of the Saints from our congregation who have passed from “Life Unto Life Everlasting” since All Saints Sunday last year. This is a special day in which we give thanks to God as we remember and pay tribute to "Our  Saints." This morning, we will also gather again, around the Table of our Lord to celebrate Holy Communion and remember that through Jesus Christ we have life now and life forever. Thank you for being here on this most holy and special Sunday.

    “Here Comes the Groom”

Weddings! Every pastor can tell stories about weddings they have conducted. Wedding customs were somewhat different during Biblical times and this morning, we look at a parable Jesus told about wise and foolish bridesmaids. In this story, the bridegroom is delayed and five wise-bridesmaids prepared enough oil for their lamps, while five who were foolish did not plan accordingly; This is another one of those "Kingdom"  parables. What does this parable have to do with us in our modern context and how can we apply it to our lives?
